Emergency Workers Keep Eyes on Railroad Improvements

Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

(TNS) – Motorists who cross Norfolk Southern Railroad crossings will need to continue to keep an eye on railroad signage and perhaps have an alternate route in mind, said Ashtabula County Emergency Management Director Mike Fitchet.

He said the track replacement project began on the west side of Ashtabula County and will continue until tracks are replaced all the way to the state line. Fitchet said communication on the exact days streets will be closed has been less than ideal.

Presently the work is planned in Geneva and Saybrook townships.

“We are trying to put out the best information possible,” Fitchet said.

During the last month the days of work have been changed and motorists aren’t expecting the road to be closed.

“We will continue to press them to get the best information,” Fitchet said.

He urged patience for motorists.

“Patience and have a back-up route,” Fitchet said.
