Office of Disaster Management Social Media Account Hacked

(TNS) – The social media account for the Boulder Office of Disaster Management was deactivated after it was apparently hacked over the weekend.

The Twitter account @BoulderOEM began putting out crypto-related posts over the weekend.

On Sunday, officials said the account “has been deactivated to prevent further suspicious activity from occurring.”

“We are evaluating the next steps to fully resolve this problem and thankful that the constant stream of posting activity on the site has ended,” a statement on the Boulder Office of Disaster Management’s site read. “There will be more information coming soon.”

Residents can still visit the main site at boulderodm.gov for information during a disaster, and officials said the incident has not affected its ability to send out emergency alerts.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced what had been formerly known as the Boulder Office of Emergency Management was being rebranded as the Boulder Office of Disaster Management this summer.
