Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

(TNS) — Spots are open at a weather spotter training course put on by the Weld County Office of Emergency Management.

The course will be hosted from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Weld County Administration Building, 1150 O St. in Greeley.

Seating is limited to the first 70 people who register. Residents can register beforehand by emailing gmarquez@weld.gov or calling (970) 304-6540.

The course is designed for people learning about weather for the first time and for experienced weather watchers.

It is intended to help residents better understand severe weather terminology, how forecasts are created and how different weather elements can cause storms to occur, according to the release.

“Given the size of Weld County, weather situations often differ from what is being experienced on the rest of the Front Range and can change quickly,” Office of Emergency Management Director Roy Rudisill said. “The course can help everyone better understand weather patterns, as well as what elements cause severe weather, which can help everyone be more prepared to act if necessary.”

The course will be led by a meteorologist from the National Weather Service and will offer attendees a chance to ask and get answers to questions about weather.

At the conclusion of the course, the National Weather Service will provide an 800-number to participants which will allow them to provide weather spotter information to the National Weather Service during storms if they choose.
